Developer Origin North is taking a different approach. “We primarily appealed to first-time buyers who wouldn’t approve of traditional co-op boards,” says Rachel Brill, chief investment officer at Origin North. “Most of our buyers come from the Bronx.” Julius Tanner, for example, a 27-year-old Bronx schoolteacher who had been living with his family on the outskirts of the city, purchased an apartment located just 30 minutes from his place of work. “This was exactly the opportunity he had been saving up for,” says Tanner.
